Entry:    pertussives (n.)

In context:  “The bedside table is littered with both OTC and prescription expectorants and pertussives…”

Definition:  Can’t find this anywhere.  MedLinePlus has pertussis, though, as highly contagious bacterial disease that causes uncontrollable, violent coughing. The coughing can make it hard to breathe.  A deep "whooping" sound is often heard when the patient tries to take a breath.

  1. It could be something to do with "antitussive", perhaps? Which is to say, a cough suppressant.

    1. Sounds good to me! I was a little slow on the uptake and didn't realize tussive is an adjective pertaining to coughs/coughing. Thanks!
